The Formation of a Black Hole

A black hole is created when a very massive star (much bigger than the Sun) reaches the

end of its life. 1. A massive star burns fuel Big stars use hydrogen

as fuel. When hydrogen finishes, the star becomes unstable. 2.

The star becomes a Red Supergiant Its outer layers expand. Inside,

it starts forming heavier elements like carbon, oxygen, and finally iron.

3. Iron causes the star to collapse Iron cannot produce energy,

so the star cannot support its own weight anymore. 4. The star collapses

suddenly Gravity pulls the core inward. The outer layers explode outward
