Did you know Australia once declared war... on birds? And,
unbelievably, lost? In 1932, a massive migration of emus devastated
farmlands in Western Australia. Desperate farmers called for military help. So,
the Australian army, armed with machine guns, was deployed. Their mission:
cull the 'invading' bird population. But these flightless birds were surprisingly agile and intelligent.
They scattered, dodging bullets with ease, proving incredibly difficult to hit.
After weeks and thousands of rounds fired, the military officially retreated,
admitting defeat. The Great Emu War ended with the birds victorious!
