Did you know that the Australian army once declared a full-scale war and actually lost

to a bunch of giant birds? In 1932, the military deployed soldiers with heavy

machine guns to stop twenty thousand emus from destroying local wheat crops. But the emus

were tactical geniuses. They split into small guerilla groups, making it impossible for the soldiers

to aim. Ten thousand rounds of ammunition were fired. Total bird casualties?

Almost zero. The army was forced to retreat. The government officially surrendered to the

birds. The Great Emu War remains history's most embarrassing military defeat.
