The Hidden Cost of Greatness

Michael Jordan getting cut from his high school varsity team is the most overused motivation

story. But here is what nobody tells you. He was not

actually cut. He made the team but got placed on junior varsity as a

sophomore, which was normal. The real failure came later when he lost the

college player of the year award to someone he knew he outworked. He started manufacturing

slights that did not exist, creating enemies in his mind to fuel his obsession.

Teammates would congratulate him and he would twist their words into disrespect. His six championships

came at a cost, burning relationships and sacrificing peace for performance.
