The Human Digestive System Journey

Our food journey begins in the mouth, where chewing breaks it down.

Saliva, with amylase enzymes, starts carbohydrate breakdown immediately. Food then travels

down the esophagus, a muscular tube, to the stomach. In the stomach, strong hydrochloric acid

begins further food breakdown. Pepsin enzyme targets proteins. The stomach powerfully

churns the mix. Next, partially digested food moves into the small intestine.

Here, bile and enzymes complete digestion, absorbing vital nutrients. Undigested material enters

the large intestine for water absorption. Finally, the remaining waste is prepared for

elimination from the body.
