The Illusion of Security

They say the council keeps us safe, but from what it's hard to

see. From meaningful decisions, from accountability, from any precedent that might apply

to them someday, from consequences that could make the bombs and cash go away.

Outside the blue flag flutters, inside careers are made, writing statements so

elastic they can stretch around a grave. If you're waiting for salvation from

this solemn little club, you'll get hashtags, press releases, and a commemorative

mug. This is the Security Council, Supreme Court of shrug and spin,

where the right to say, "I veto" beats a million terrified civilians.
