March 18, 1990. Two men dressed as police officers approach the Gardner
Museum in Boston. They claimed to be responding to a disturbance. The young guard
let them inside. Minutes later, the guards were bound in the basement.
The heist of the century began. They stole thirteen pieces of art, including a rare
Rembrandt and a priceless Vermeer. They cut the canvases right out of their frames
before vanishing into the night. The total value? Five hundred million dollars.
It was a clean, non-violent crime. Today, those empty frames
still hang on the walls, waiting for the art to return. Thirty years later,
