The Jazz Revolution of Talk

Jazz didn't just revolutionize music, it literally rewrote the rules of human conversation.

Before the 1920s, interrupting someone was considered the height of rudeness. Then jazz musicians

started trading solos, cutting each other off mid-phrase, finishing sentences. This call and

response pattern was so infectious that speech patterns changed within a decade. People started overlapping,

building on each other's ideas instead of waiting politely. What we call active listening today

is not natural. We learned it from jazz.
