The Lark and Self-Reliance

The Lark and Her Young Ones A Lark built her nest in a field of wheat that was

nearly ripe. One morning, the young Birds heard the farmer say,

"I must ask my neighbors to help me cut the grain tomorrow." The young ones panicked, but the mother Lark

calmed them, saying, "If the farmer depends on his neighbors, the wheat will not

be cut tomorrow." The next day, they heard the farmer say he would ask his family.

Again, the mother was unconcerned. Finally, they heard him say, "I will cut the

wheat myself tomorrow." Then, the mother Lark said, "Now it is time

to move," for she knew action would follow the farmer's own will. Moral: Self-help
