Lincoln never slept in the Lincoln Bedroom. The room we call the Lincoln Bedroom today was actually
his Cabinet Room where he signed the Emancipation Proclamation. It only became a
bedroom after his death when his wife Mary moved out of the White House. Presidents started
using it as a guest room in 1902, and it got its famous name because Lincoln's furniture was placed
there. The actual bedroom where Lincoln slept was on the other end of the hall.
This mix up has confused visitors for over a century. The room has hosted everyone from Winston
Churchill to Queen Elizabeth, all believing they were sleeping where Lincoln once did.
The historic bed in there is called the Lincoln bed, but there's no evidence he ever actually
