The Mary Celeste was found drifting perfectly intact in 1872, with breakfast still
warm on the table, but every single soul had vanished without a trace.
No signs of struggle, no storm damage, cargo untouched. The lifeboat was
missing, yet the ship was seaworthy. Pirates wouldn't leave valuables behind.
Mutiny made no sense with a respected captain. Then investigators found it.
Nine barrels of industrial alcohol had leaked fumes into the hold. The crew likely
feared an explosion, abandoned ship in panic, and their lifeboat probably sank in
rough seas. They fled from a disaster that never happened.
