Ever push a hard workout and suddenly taste metal or like you licked a penny?
That is a real thing and it has a few sneaky causes. Most of the
time, it is not lactic acid in your mouth. It is simpler.
Intense breathing can dry and irritate your mouth and throat especially in cold or dry
air. Tiny irritated blood vessels in your nose or throat can leak a
microscopic amount of blood. That iron in hemoglobin can taste metallic even if
it is a tiny amount. Another common cause: your gums. Hard breathing and
dry mouth can make them easier to irritate. Less common: intense exertion can
