In 1858, US Marshals came to a quiet Ohio town with one mission, to seize a man who
had fled toward freedom. They thought it would be simple. The town made sure
it wouldn't be. The man's name was John Price. The marshals took him to a hotel in
the nearby town of Wellington, planning to move him south before anyone noticed.
But word spread faster than they expected. Back in Oberlin, people poured into
the streets, angry, determined, unstoppable. Hundreds marched
to Wellington and surrounded the building where Price was held. The marshals tried
to stand their ground, but the crowd kept swelling. Someone shouted, "Bring him out."
