The Power of a Kind Word

I once had an Uber driver named Paul. Not “nice enough” Paul. Not “got me there

on time” Paul. Paul was exceptional. He pulled up in a spotless car. Got out,

opened the door for me. Wore a suit — not because anyone asked him to,

but because he believed the job deserved it. He remembered my name.

Asked how my day was — and actually waited for the answer. For twenty minutes, you felt like the

most important person in his world. At one point I finally asked him, “Can I ask you something?

Why do you do this job like this?” Paul smiled and told me a story. When he was little

— really little — he was riding a tricycle up and down the driveway. Just a kid,
