Faking a failure is actually the ultimate power move. Back in 533 AD, General Belisarius
was outnumbered by a massive Vandal army in North Africa. Instead of a suicide charge,
he played 4D chess. He ordered his cavalry to attack and then immediately pretend to run away in terror.
The Vandals took the bait, broke their formation, and chased them like a disorderly
mob. That is exactly when Belisarius yelled turn. His troops spun
around and slaughtered the confused enemy, destroying an entire kingdom in a single afternoon.
This is the lesson. When you feel like you are backing down in life, you aren't losing.
You are just drawing your problems out into the open so you can crush them on your own terms.
