Following Chávez's passing in 2013, Maduro moved quickly. As acting president, he prepared for

an election that would test his grip on the nation's future. The 2013 election

was a narrow, disputed victory. Despite massive protests and calls for a recount,

Maduro stood firm, claiming the presidency as his own. By restructuring the Supreme Court and

creating a new Constituent Assembly, he bypassed the opposition-led parliament, effectively concentrating all
