The Rock of Peter's Confession

The Rock of the Church: Matthew 16:16-18 When Jesus asked Peter for his identity,

Peter did not reply, "You are God the Son, the Second Person of the Trinity."

Peter declared: "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God." Jesus blessed this

confession, stating that "flesh and blood" had not revealed it, but the Father.

Jesus identified this specific confession—Messiahship and Sonship—as the rock upon which the Church is built.

If salvation required believing Jesus was God Incarnate, Jesus would have corrected Peter

for providing an incomplete answer. Instead, he validated it as the revelation

of God.
