The Shallow Nature of the Empty Self

The empty self is a shallow, culturally produced version of the person who lacks depth,

discipline, and spiritual maturity. These are some traits found in the empty self.

First, the empty self is individualistic, meaning it views life primarily through

the lens of personal wants, comfort, and self-expression. This inward focus

weakens community and minimizes shared responsibility, encouraging people to treat life as

something centered on their own preferences. Next, the empty self is infantile.

Rather than embracing adult responsibilities, discipline, or delayed gratification, it clings to childlike

desires for ease, entertainment, and instant pleasure. This immaturity prevents long-term
