This is the story of Peter Owen Pilkington, a 48-year-old father of three.

Whose life ended tragically on 6 December 2021 after a police-involved shooting at Stretton,

south of Brisbane. His death led to a detailed inquest by the Coroners Court of

Queensland. Peter’s life had been shaped by hardship from an early age.

He was placed in state care as a child, experienced abuse and neglect.

And grew up surrounded by domestic and family violence. These experiences left deep scars that

followed him into adulthood. As an adult, Peter battled autism spectrum disorder,

bipolar disorder, borderline personality traits, chronic pain, and substance misuse. He lived alone,
