A fake miracle on a tree caused one of the bloodiest massacres in Chinese history.
In 835 AD, the Tang Emperor Wenzong was sick of his eunuch servants controlling him,
so he hatched a wild plot. He claimed Sweet Dew, a sign from heaven,
had appeared on a tree in the courtyard. The plan was to lure the powerful eunuchs outside
to see it, then ambush them with hidden soldiers. It was perfect, until the wind ruined
everything. A breeze blew aside the curtains, revealing the soldiers' armor.
The eunuchs realized it was a trap immediately. They snatched the emperor, dragged him back
inside, and unleashed hell. Over a thousand officials were slaughtered that day.
