The Temple Mount: A Sacred Site

The Temple Mount in Jerusalem is the holiest site in Judaism. According to the

Hebrew Bible, it’s where King Solomon built the First Jewish Temple around the 10th

century BCE. That temple was destroyed by the Babylonians in 586 BCE,

and the Second Temple was later built on the same site, standing until the Romans destroyed

it in 70 CE. Today, the Temple Mount is also home to the Al-Aqsa Mosque

and the Dome of the Rock, making it one of the most religiously significant and

sensitive locations in the world for Jews, Muslims, and Christians.
