The Upward Flow: Udāna Vāta

Udāna Vāta is the vital force that governs the upward energy of our body.

Its natural direction is Ūrdhva Gati, a constant flow from the navel to the head.

It governs Vāk Pravṛtti, initiating the power of speech as it vibrates through

the throat. This force fuels Prayatna, providing us with the effort and

enthusiasm to take action. From Udāna comes our Ūrjā and Balam,

the foundation of our physical strength and vitality. As it illuminates the head,

it sparks Smṛti and Buddhi, our memory and sharp intellect. Finally,

it guides Utkramana, the symbolic upward release of our life energy into the universe.
