The Virgin Birth: A War Story

Most people think the "Virgin Birth" is just a Christmas story about a baby in a manger.

They are wrong. This isn't a holiday vignette. It is a war story. It is the single

most dangerous piece of theology in the New Testament. If you misunderstand Isaiah 7:14,

you misunderstand the identity of Jesus Christ completely. To get this right, we have to leave

the nativity scene and go to a war room in 735 BC. King Ahaz is on the throne of Judah,

and he is shaking in his boots. Two massive armies—Syria and Israel—are marching on Jerusalem.

They have one strategic goal: wipe out the house of David and install a puppet king.

This is an existential crisis. If they succeed, the line of David ends.
