Twenty Years to Silence

We were twenty years deep in the same old place.

Same walls heard every promise break. Four little hearts asleep upstairs. While I carried

the weight I never shared. I came home late with a practiced

grin. Told myself, "Be strong, just walk back in."

But I stood outside, keys in my hand. Afraid of the

mood I might not understand. Counting coins, counting faults in me.
