UK's Commitment to Net Zero by 2050

The United Kingdom has committed to reaching net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

According to the UK government's Net Zero Strategy, the goal is to reduce emissions across

every major sector of the economy: power, transport, buildings,

industry, agriculture, and fuel supply. The plan centers on a fully decarbonized

electricity system by around 2035. This includes a large-scale deployment of offshore wind,

onshore wind, solar power, new nuclear capacity, and major expansion of the energy storage

and grid flexibility. The government notes that UK has already cut emissions by roughly 44% since

1990, even as the economy continued to grow. Transport is expected to electrify rapidly.
