Under Constant Threat

Dan kept waiting for two full years. The threatening calls from the bank continued.

Sometimes they said the case was still under investigation, sometimes they warned that the police

could show up any moment. Dan couldn’t figure out whether the bank was actually

unable to take action or if they were just trying to scare him and keep him under pressure.

By early 2014, it had been almost two years since his ATM transfers had begun.

This long stretch of fear and uncertainty had completely crushed his mental state. He wasn’t in jail,

but he wasn’t free either. His life was stuck under the constant shadow of an unseen

danger.
