Air masses moving over a particular area affect the weather conditions there.
An air mass is a large area of air with similar temperatures and humidity. Air masses can be
cold, warm, dry, or moist, depending on where
they form. When one air mass meets another, this point of convergence is called a front.
A front is the line between two air masses with different temperatures. Along a front,
weather conditions can change rapidly. Refer to the diagram below to see the differences between
three types of fronts: warm fronts, cold fronts, and stationary fronts.
