Welcome to our exploration of DC generators. Today, we'll delve into the components that
comprise these intriguing machines and examine how they collaborate to produce electricity. At the heart of
every DC generator lies the armature, a coil of wire that rotates within a magnetic field generated
by either stationary magnets or electromagnets. As the armature rotates, it intersects the
magnetic lines of flux, thereby, inducing an electromotive force,
EMF, within the coil. This induced current travels through the armature windings
and is collected by stationary contacts known as brushes. These brushes maintain contact with a split
ring commutator, which is divided into 2 segments, referred to as commutator segments.
