Ever wondered why Diwali falls on different dates every year? Like sometimes it’s
in October, sometimes mid-November? Isn’t a festivs supposed to have a fixed date?
Well, that’s because Indian festivs don’t follow the regular calendar.
They follow the Panchang the ancient Hindu lunar calendar. Diwali, Holi,
Raksha Bandhn all these are celebrated on specific Tithis which are lunar dates,
not solar ones. That is why Diwali always comes on the Amavsya (new moon) of the Kartik
month But since the Moon’s cycle is ~29.5 days, dates shift every year.
So while the world celebrates time as 1st Jan, 14th Feb, 25th Dec
