Why the fuck do you get hiccups? Here's the deal. Your diaphragm, that dome-shaped
muscle separating your chest from your belly, decides to have a goddamn seizure.
When something irritates your vagus nerve or phrenic nerve, these nerves tell your dumbass diaphragm
to spasm and contract. This sucks air into your lungs real fucking fast. But here's the kicker:
milliseconds later, your glottis, the space between your vocal cords, slams the fuck shut
to stop more air coming in. That sudden closure creates the "HIC" sound.
Common triggers? Eating too fast, drinking carbonated shit, or downing too much
alcohol. Your stomach expands like a balloon and irritates the diaphragm sitting right above
