That sea salt water in your kitchen and the air you're breathing are basically the same thing to
a chemist. They're both mixtures. Air is a homogeneous mixture, meaning it's all
blended together so perfectly you can't see the individual parts. But something like
sandy water or even milk is heterogeneous—you can see the different bits that aren't fully mixed.
We use chemistry to separate these all the time. When you filter your coffee,
you're separating the solid grounds from the liquid. When you boil salt water,
the water evaporates, leaving the salt behind. It's all just chemistry.
