Jesus often spoke about loyalty. Not loyalty as emotion — but loyalty as direction.
He said something simple and uncompromising: “No one can serve two masters.” Not should not.
Cannot. Jesus understood that divided loyalty doesn’t feel like rebellion.
It feels reasonable. It sounds like balance. It looks like compromise. It often hides behind good intentions.
People came to Jesus ready to follow — but with conditions. “I will follow You,
but first…” “I will follow You, as long as…” “I will follow You, after…”
Jesus did not argue with their reasons. He confronted the delay. One man wanted to
follow, but first return home. Another wanted to bury his father.
