Unseen Innocence

I was walking home from work on a cold Tuesday night, hands in my pockets, headphones in,

thinking about nothing but dinner. Same street, same hour, same routine I had

followed for years. Then I saw the flashing blue lights. At first, I didn’t think they

were for me. I was literally just walking. But the moment the police car slowed

down beside me, my stomach tightened. Two officers stepped out. No greetings.

No explanations. “Hands where we can see them,” one of them said. I froze.

I had no idea what was happening. “What’s going on?” I asked, trying to stay calm.

“You match the description of a suspect,” the other officer said. I asked what description. They wouldn’t answer.
