When a wet dog shakes, water flies everywhere—but this move is surprisingly scientific.
Here’s why dogs are so good at shaking water off. Dogs can remove
up to 70% of the water on their fur in just a few seconds.
Their skin is much looser than ours, allowing it to rotate independently of
the body. When they shake, the skin moves first—dragging the fur and water with
it. Dogs rotate their bodies up to 4–5 times per second.
The faster the rotation, the more force acts on the water droplets.
This force is called centrifugal force, and it overcomes the water’s grip on the fur.
