Hello, I am François Viète, a French mathematician. I lived from
1540 to 1603. I contributed to the development of algebra and introduced the system of
using letters to denote quantities. Today, I will explain to you the
theorem that bears my name, Viète’s Theorem. Viète’s Theorem shows the relationship between
the roots of a quadratic equation and its coefficients. If a is not zero,
then the roots satisfy the following relations: x₁ plus x₂ equals minus b
divided by a. And x₁ multiplied by x₂ equals c divided by a.
The main purpose of this theorem is to find the roots without using the discriminant.
