Voicemail From the Dead

“The last voicemail from my mom came in at 2:43 AM. That was strange… because she passed

away three years ago. I didn’t listen to it right away. I just stared at

my phone, waiting for it to disappear. It didn’t. When I finally pressed

play, all I heard was breathing. Slow. Uneven.

Then my name. Not spoken — whispered. I hung up instantly. Ten seconds later, another voicemail

came in. This one said, ‘I don’t have much time.’ My chest felt tight.

My hands were shaking. I listened. She said, ‘Someone’s been pretending to be

me. And they’re getting closer to you.’ The message cut off.
