Voices in the Vents

My neighbor kept reporting me for “screaming at night.” The problem is… I live alone.

I’m a 29M living in a quiet apartment complex. Moved here after a breakup, hoping for peace.

Three months in, my downstairs neighbor a woman in her 60s kept knocking on my door at random hours.

“Please stop screaming in the middle of the night.” I laughed the first time.

I sleep like a rock. Definitely not a sleep-screamer. But she insisted she heard it through

the vents. I brushed it off… until the building manager emailed me about noise complaints

at 3AM. “Male screaming.” I told them I had a sleep-tracking sound machine that

would’ve recorded anything they didn’t care. But then my sleep app did show noise spikes.
