Waiting on You, Dad

Boots by the back door, keys on the bench. Coffee cup stains

on a pay slip trench. Sun up, you're gone before I'm awake.

Chasing that paycheck for our family's sake. I'm just waiting on you,

Dad, to kick the ball in the backyard. Take me camping

by the river, show me stars when it gets dark. From kicking the

footy to wet in a line, you work hard, play harder.

My dad is one of a kind. Fishing rod leaning, dust on the

reel. Football by the hallway, that's how I feel.
