Was the Union Wrong in the Trent Affair?

We hear a lot of noise about the Trent Affair, but from where we stand,

it doesn’t seem like we did anything wrong fr. Two of our Confederate diplomats,

James Mason and John Slidell, were sent to Europe to ask Britain and France for support.

They were peacefully traveling on a British mail ship called the Trent. The United States

Navy stopped that ship on the open sea and forcibly cooked all of our men,

360 no scope. From our perspective, that feels unjust lowkey. Britain is a neutral

nation, and its ships are supposed to be protected. If the North claims to respect international
