When Earthly Power Fears Jesus

When Jesus was born, not everyone rejoiced. Some were afraid. Wise men arrived in Jerusalem asking

a simple question: “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews?” That question reached

the ears of King Herod. And Scripture tells us plainly: “When King Herod

heard this, he was disturbed — and all Jerusalem with him.”

Why would a powerful ruler fear a baby? Because Herod understood something many missed. Jesus was not just

another child. He represented authority. Herod had power given by Rome — borrowed power.

Fragile power. The birth of Jesus pointed to a different kind of kingship. Not one upheld by

violence, but by truth. Not one seized through force, but given by God.
