Every law has a reason, and every international law was written after someone suffered.
This is not a story about politics. It is a story about people, and the law that
tries to protect them. At 5:00 in the morning, a mother in Ukraine wakes her child,
not for school, but to leave home forever. She locks the door. She doesn't know
if she will ever unlock it again. This is the Russia-Ukraine conflict, a war that changed
millions of lives overnight. International law is clear. Countries cannot
invade other countries. The UN Charter calls this the prohibition of use of force. And even in war,
there are rules. Civilians must be protected. Hospitals must not be bombed.
