Where My Shadows Went

I noticed it first in the parking garage. My shadow split clean in two under the fluorescent

lights. I thought I was losing it until the left one didn't follow me to my

car. It just stayed there, frozen on the concrete. When I came back the next day,

it was gone. Now I keep track. Under streetlights, LED strips, even my desk lamp,

my shadow splits. Sometimes both return. Sometimes only one. I started marking a tally on my arm

every time it happens. Forty-three times now. Here's what freaks me out.

I counted all my friends' shadows yesterday. Everyone has one. I have seven following

me around. Where did the other thirty-six go?
