Whispers in the Hospital

I woke up in a hospital. At least that’s what I told myself. The lights were too bright,

the proof too thin. No windows. No doors. Just a steady beeping that didn’t match

my heartbeat. I tried to speak. Nothing came out. Then I heard breathing behind the curtain.

A voice leaned close to my ear and whispered, “Good. You remember this part.”

I pulled the curtain aside. The bed was empty. Except for me. Smiling.
