Why Bananas Float Until Peeled

A banana will float in water even though it feels totally solid. It seems wrong because

they are heavy, but physics doesn't care about weight, it cares about density. Inside that fruit

are millions of tiny air pockets that make it lighter than water. It is the same reason

apples float while potatoes drop like stones. But here is the wildest part.

If you peel it, it sinks immediately. The skin is basically a life jacket full of air bubbles,

so once you take it off, that banana is going straight to the bottom.
