Most people hear their recorded voice and think, “That can’t be me.” But it
is. Your ears normally hear your voice in two different ways.
First, sound travels through the air into your ears. Second,
vibrations travel through your skull and soft tissues. That “ bone conduction” adds extra low-frequency
depth. So your brain is used to a richer, warmer version of
your voice. A recording mostly captures the air version. Without the added
low frequencies, the voice can sound higher or thinner to you. Everyone else has
always heard you closer to that recorded version. The surprise is really your brain
