Why Super Mario 64 Feels Creepy

There's tons of videos about "weird things" in Super Mario 64, or fake creepy videos

of "1995 beta versions" or even a "November 1994 beta" which never existed or vaguely odd fake

commercials for the game, which also sadly never existed, which are given

the VHS film effect and usually followed up by a jumpscare or just made to feel liminal or

odd or nostalgic but in a creepy way. These seem to be done oddly by Gen

Z people, who likely never owned or never played Super Mario 64 but find it creepy somehow

or spooky. My question is, why? It's almost a meme. The whole vibe similar

to backrooms probably mixes well with creepy pasta. Not a gen z/ younger thing though,
