It's the year 476 AD. In the city of Rome, something strange is happening.
There is no great battle, no city in flames, and no cheering crowds.
Instead, a young emperor quietly loses his throne. His name is Romulus
Augustulus, and with his removal, the Western Roman Empire comes to an end.
But Rome did not fall in this single moment. This was only the final page of a
very long story. To understand how Rome reached this point, we have to go back
centuries earlier when the empire was still strong. At its height, the Roman Empire
