Ever start a workout feeling awful… then suddenly feel surprisingly good a few minutes later?
That shift is often called a “ second wind.” It’s not magic. It’s your body
switching from “ startup stress” to “ steady performance.” Early in exercise, your muscles demand
energy faster than your body can deliver oxygen. This means oxygen isn't delivered efficiently
at the start. Your breathing and heart rate need a short adjustment period.
During this phase, effort feels harder than it should. As you continue, your cardiovascular system
catches up. More oxygen reaches working muscles. That reduces the feeling of “ heavy
legs” for many people. Your body also gets better at using fuel efficiently
