Did You Know? This 700-year-old salt mine in Poland has four underground chapels carved entirely
from rock salt. Medieval miners working 1,000 feet below ground created these sacred spaces
as expressions of their faith and places of refuge in the darkness. The Wieliczka Salt
Mine chapels feature intricate religious sculptures, altars, and even chandeliers
all carved from the same salt the miners extracted daily. The most famous
is the Chapel of St. Kinga, which took over 30 years to complete and can hold 400
people for weddings and concerts. What's incredible is that everything you see,
from the floor to the ceiling decorations, is made from salt that's been naturally preserved for centuries.
