Wolves at Dusk

I walked deep into the forest one afternoon, losing track of time among the towering trees.

When I finally turned back toward home, the sun was setting fast. That's when I saw

them. A pack of wolves blocking the trail ahead, eyes glowing in

the fading light. My heart stopped. I couldn't move forward, couldn't turn back.

They just stood there, watching, waiting. I grabbed a thick

branch and backed away slowly, never breaking eye contact. One wolf stepped

closer, testing me. I yelled, swung the branch, made myself bigger.

After what felt like forever, they turned and melted back into the shadows.
